Cuttack: Amid fuel shortage in Odisha, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Friday announced strict austerity measures to reduce consumption of petrol and diesel across its operations.
Sources said Mayor Subhas Singh has issued instruction to all departments to cut down oil usage by 20 per cent. The move comes amid rising fuel prices and reduced supply.
The civic body has underlined the need for immediate and collective action to ensure sustainable municipal functioning.
As part of the guidelines, the CMC has decided to reduce the number of operational vehicles under its fleet. Officials have been instructed to promote carpooling and use of single vehicle by officials whenever possible. This measure is expected to significantly reduce fuel consumption.
This apart, the civic body has prohibited the use of government vehicles on Mondays and all government holidays. Only essential emergency services will be exempted from this restriction.
Mayor Subhas Singh said such steps are necessary to set an example in resource conservation. The new rules will come into effect immediately, and all departments have been directed to submit weekly reports on fuel consumption to monitor compliance.
