Cuttack’s SCB Turns Into Hotbed Of COVID-19 With 87 Cases; Know The Details

Cuttack: The COVID-19 tally in Cuttack district surged to 2731 with 178 new cases being detected in the last 24 hours as Odisha’s total caseload went past 40,000-mark and touched 40,717 on Thursday.

The day also saw eight more cases being reported from SCB Medical College and Hospital here, which has turned into a COVID-19 hotbed. A total of 87 persons, including many employees of the hospital, contracted the virus in the month of July and the first week of August, according to tweets by Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).

17 cases detected in SCB between August 1-6

On August 6, eight cases were reported from the isolation ward of SCB, which had seen two patients/attendants testing positive for the virus on August 5. Three more from the isolation ward were found infected on August 4.

Among the 87 cases reported on August 3, the lone institutional quarantine case was a patient of SCB’s isolation ward. August 1 saw three more cases being reported from here.

70 cases detected in the month of July

Three cases were reported from SCB on July 31 and two on July 30. Another three patients/attendants of SCB Medical College and Hospital had tested positive for the virus on July 28 while seven and five more cases were detected on July 26 and 27 respectively.

Three more were detected here on July 25 while no cases were reported on July 24. Nine and six cases were reported on July 22 and 23 respectively.

Five cases each were reported on July 20 and 21 and one case each on July 17 and 18. The SCB reported two cases each on July 15 and 16. Two more cases were reported on July 13, four on July 11, three on July 10, two each on July 8 and 9, one on July 7.

Two more cases were detected on July 3, when the virus took roots in the hospital.

SOP for hospitals

On July 18, the Cuttack administration had issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for three hospitals in the city to contain the spread of the virus after a number of patients and staffers of the Sishu Bhawan, SCB and Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer tested positive for COVID-19.

On July 12, the cancer hospital had accounted for 120 of the total 248 cases in Cuttack city. The single-source cancer hospital’s tally mounted to 137 on July 14. CMC Commissioner Ananya Das had then informed about 18 positive cases being detected from SCB and the number has now swelled to 87.

With 11 deaths and 1768 recoveries, Cuttack now has 948 active cases.
