Gold Coast: An aggressive Saina Nehwal got the better of compatriot P V Sindhu in an all-Indian women’s singles final on the closing day of the Gold Coast Games on Sunday. With this, India wrapped up the Games with 66 medals, comprising 26 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze.

Sindhu, who gave a tough fight in the high-pressure match went down 18-21, 21-23, settled for silver.

In men’s badminton singles, World number 1 Kidambi Srikanth also settled for silver after going down 21-19, 14-21, 14-21 to Malaysian Lee Chong Wei.

In men’s doubles final, the pair of Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Chandrasekhar Shetty bagged silver after they losing to Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge of England.

Manika Batra added a fourth medal to her tally after she and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran beat Achanta Sharath Kamal/Mouma Das to win bronze in mix doubles table tennis.

Two more silver were added to the Indian kitty after the squash duo of Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa were beaten in the final by Joelle King and Amanda-Landers Murphy of New Zealand. 

M C Mary Kom will Be India’s flag-bearer in the closing ceremony of the Gold Coast Games.
