Cyclone Yaas: Ensure Zero-Error Preparation, Odisha CM Tells Officials

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday directed officials to ensure zero-error preparation to effectively tackle the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas which is most likely to hit Odisha and West Bengal coasts on May 26.

Presiding over a high-level review meeting through video conferencing, Naveen directed district collectors and SP to personally monitor safe evacuation of the people from low-lying areas to cyclone shelters.

He also directed the Chief Secretary to regularly monitor cyclone preparedness and provide timely advice to district administrations.

The Chief Minister asked the Revenue and Disaster Management Department to keep the ODRAF, NDRF and Fire Service teams in readiness with all rescue-related equipment and road-clearing machines for quick restoration of road network post cyclone.
He also directed the Water Resources and Energy Departments to keep their equipment ready for post-restoration work.

In view of the prevailing COVID pandemic, he directed officials to ensure seamless intra and inter-state supply of oxygen during and after the cyclone.

Stating that the state government is ready to tackle the ensuing cyclone, Naveen requested the people not to panic and take adequate precautions in accordance with advice of the administration.
