Cyclothon To Promote Road Safety Held In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: As part of the National Road Safety Month a state-level cyclothon was organised here on Friday with an aim to create awareness on road safety.

State Sports and Youth Services Minister Tusharkanti Behera flagged off the cyclothon themed ‘Pedal For Road Safety’.

More than 100 cyclists participated in the event during which the cyclists also performed stunts.

Organised by State Transport Authority, the cyclothon started from OSRTC office and went through AG Square, Unit-6 Hospital Square, Sishu Bhawan Square, Raj Mahal Square, Ram Mandir Square and Unit-4.

The event was meant to spread awareness against traffic violations like drunken driving, over-speeding, triple riding, wrong side driving, driving using mobile phones and not wearing seat belt and riding without helmets.

Transport Commissioner, MLA Ananta Narayan Jena, Ollywood actors Papu Pom Pom and Sabhyasachi Mishra were present.

Every year, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways observes the National Road Safety Week in the second week of January.

This year, however, the Ministry has decided to observe a month-long initiative from January 18 to February 17 to ensure a more effective awareness on the rising number of deaths due to road mishaps in the country and necessary ameliorative measures to fight curb it.
