Patna: The battle for Bihar saw a high-intensity fight between the ruling NDA and Mahagatbandhan, with debutants Jan Suraaj Party providing a third option to voters.
Voting ended on November 11, but the tension continues.
A day before the counting of votes to determine the fate of nine-term chief minister Nitish Kumar, Opposition’s CM face Tejashwi Yadav and Prashant Kishor, RJD leader Sunil Singh triggered a row with a controversial statement.
Sunil warned that people will take to streets, like in Nepal and Bangladesh, if the mandate is stolen.
Responding to Sunil’s remarks, Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar said an FIR is being registered over this inflammatory statement.
“All arrangements have been made and enough forces have been deployed to ensure peaceful counting of votes… Such an irresponsible statement (by Sunil Singh) is wrong and an FIR is being registered against him,” the DGP told ANI.
The RJD leader, a close aide of Lalu Yadav, earlier claimed that many of his party candidates were “forcibly defeated” in 2020.
“I have requested all our officials involved in the counting process that if you defeat the person whom the public has given their mandate, the same scenes you witnessed on the roads in Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka will be seen on the roads of Bihar as well,” Sunil told ANI.
“You will see the common people taking to the streets… We are absolutely vigilant about this, and we urge you not to do anything that goes against public sentiment, that the public will not accept,” he added.
