Bhubaneswar: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police posted at Balianta in Bhubaneswar was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance on Thursday while taking Rs 4,000 bribe from a man to help him in a family dispute case.
The accused, identified as Somanath Palei, was the investigating officer of the family dispute. He had assured the complainant to help him in the case and demanded Rs 4,000.
He also threatened him with arrest if he failed to pay the bribe amount. The complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities. Based on the complaint, a team of Vigilance nabbed Palei while taking Rs 4,000 from the complainant in Balianta Police Station. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of accused Palei and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations linked to Palei from Disproportionate Assets angle. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
