Bhubaneswar: The day temperature in Odisha is likely to rise further by 2-4°C during the next 3-4 days with the return of sultry conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.
Yellow warning for hot and humid and heatwave has been issued till May 14.
On Tuesday, the mercury had soared past 40°C on Wednesday with Sambalpur at 41°C, Balangir at 40.8°C, Jharsuguda at 40.4°C and Titlagarh at 40°C. Bhubaneswar recorded 37.2°C.
This comes almost after a week of relief from the scorching heat due to thunderstorms, rain and strong winds.
Though nor’wester activity has waned in the state, a warning for thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph in the afternoon/evening hours continues for one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati on May 8.
Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Angul, Boudh, Balangir, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.
Hot and humid conditions may prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts from May 8-14.
Heatwave warning begins from May 10
May 10: Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Balangir and Boudh.
May 11: Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Boudh, Balangir and Sundargarh.
May 12-13: Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Boudh Sundargarh and Nayagarh.
May 14: Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Boudh, Sundargarh, Nayagarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Deogarh.
There will be little change in the weather conditions during the next 3 days, it added.
The national weather forecaster has predicted above normal heatwave days in the state in May.
