New Delhi: Delhi Police have said the Cockroach Janata Party’s planned July 20 “Sansad Chalo” march to Parliament will not be allowed, describing it as illegal and saying no fresh permission had been obtained for the protest.
Officers warned that if a large crowd moved toward Parliament, they would intervene to prevent congestion and maintain security in the area, as reported by Outlook.
The dispute follows a 21-day hunger strike at Jantar Mantar led by activist Sonam Wangchuk over alleged irregularities in national examinations, including the NEET-UG paper leaks.
Police removed Wangchuk early on Saturday and shifted him to Safdarjung Hospital where his condition is being closely monitored.
Permission Dispute
Police and the CJP remain at odds over whether the protest had valid approval. Police say the party had only signed undertakings for a one-day demonstration and then extended the agitation without clearance.
A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the CJP had not sought permission for the march.
“CJP spokesperson Abhijeet Dipke has never informed us or applied for a permission for the Sansad Chalo march. It’s a completely illegal protest because they only had permission for one day. We even made them sign undertakings. Now, they have extended it without any permission. Also, for the march, we only approached them but they have not even applied for a permission,” the officer said.
CJP spokesperson Vaishnavi Gaur rejected that version. “We had intimated them about the march way back. They know very well about the march and our plans. In any case, they won’t allow us,” Gaur said, adding that the intimation had been given in person and not in writing.
