Demand For Permanent HC Bench In Balangir Intensifies


Balangir: Reiterating its demand for setting up a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court, the Balangir Bar Association in association with the Joint Action Committee intensified the agitation in the district on Monday.


Talking to mediapersons here, convener of the Joint Action Committee, Lalit Kumar Nayak, said it has been decided that the all the Central and state government offices and educational institutions would remain closed from Monday till December 30.

“The lawyers have started picketing before all Central and State government offices and forcing them to be closed. Besides, all educational institutions have been closed,” Nayak said, adding that the bandh is supported by about 300 social organisations and civil societies.


He further said that the lawyers of the District Bar Association and the Joint Action Committee have resorted to cease work from December 3 and closed down the tehsil office and the office of the district collector.


“It has been decided that the Joint Action Committee will further intensify its agitation if the state government fails to take steps for setting up of the High Court bench in the district at the earliest,” Nayak warned.
