Bhubaneswar: The depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-westwards and crossed north Tamil Nadu and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Chennai around 3 am to 4 am on Friday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system was over north coastal Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood, about 60 km south-southwest of Chennai and 60 km north- northeast of Puducherry around 5.30 am. It is likely to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure during the next 12 hours.
Under its influence, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Gajapati are likely to experience heavy rain on Saturday.
During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and at one or two places in South Odisha, it added.
The MeT has forecast rainfall for several districts of the state till 8.30 am on November 23.
There will be no large change in minimum temperature (night temperature) during the next 2 days and the mercury may rise by 2-3 degrees, it added.
