Islamabad: An Iranian delegation is set to arrive in Pakistan’s capital late on Thursday for high-stakes talks aimed at resolving the escalating conflict with the US and Israel, Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan announced.
Reza Amiri Moghadam, in a post on X, confirmed the development amid widespread skepticism in Iran over Israel’s alleged ceasefire breaches, Reuters reported.
“Despite skepticism of Iranian public opinion due to repeated ceasefire violations by the Israeli regime to sabotage the diplomatic initiative, invited by Hon. PM Shehbaz Sharif, Iranian delegation arrives tonight in Islamabad for serious talks based on 10 points proposed by Iran,” he stated.
The announcement underlines Pakistan’s pivotal role in mediating between Tehran and Washington, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extending the invitation to facilitate dialogue.
Reports suggest the Iranian team will engage US representatives, potentially led by Vice President JD Vance, in Islamabad around the same period. Iran’s 10-point proposal, shared via Pakistan earlier, demands a full ceasefire, lifting of US sanctions, non-aggression guarantees, secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, American troop pull outs from the region, release of frozen Iranian assets, and compensation for war damages.
This initiative follows a tenuous ceasefire in the Middle East, where hostilities between Iran, Israel, and US allies have intensified since late 2025. Tehran had earlier rejected a US 15-point counter-proposal, insisting on comprehensive terms rather than a temporary halt. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian publicly affirmed Tehran’s commitment to the Islamabad talks, signaling a diplomatic push despite domestic doubts.
