Puri: A devotee died after a fall from the roof of a mutt during the Suna Besha ritual of the sibling deities of Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri town.
The deceased has been identified as Babaji Chandra Behera of Jagatsinghpur.
Sources said the incident took place on Sunday night when Behera along with his family was in Puri to witness the golden attire of the Trinity on their chariots at the Lions’ Gate of Srimandir.
Behera reportedly climbed to the roof of Radhaballav Mutt near the 12th century shrine to have a clear view of the deities, who were adorned with the golden attire.
While watching the ritual, Behera fell off the roof of the mutt after he was reportedly chased by a monkey, reports said.
He was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Puri. He was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment there, sources said.
