New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sacked four of its flight operations inspectors after IndiGo’s operations were disrupted across the country.
These officials, known as FOIs, are senior members of the DGCA, who are entrusted with the task of regulatory and safety oversight. They are routinely assigned to keep track of airline functioning.
According to reports, the sacked officials are consultant Rish Raj Chatterjee, SFO Seema Jhamnani, consultant Anil Kumar Pokhariyal, and consultant Priyam Kaushik.
These officers are responsible for ensuring aviation safety through inspections, audits and certification of airlines and personnel, including pilots, dispatchers and cabin crew. Their work involves verifying compliance with aviation rules and overseeing training, flight standards and accident prevention measures.
Fair trade watchdog Competition Commission of India is examining whether IndiGo, violated competition norms, a senior official said on Friday, reported the New Indian Express. This comes at a time when the carrier is facing regulatory scrutiny over the flight disruptions.
IndiGo, which has a domestic market share of over 65 per cent, cancelled hundreds of flights starting from December 2. The cancellations have caused hardships to thousands of passengers. The situation has been stabilising now.
