Chennai: Dhanush and Aishwarya Rajinikanth have filed for divorce at the Chennai family court, India Today reported.
According to sources close to the couple, they have filed the petition under Section 13B (divorce by mutual consent).
Dhanush, an actor, producer, lyricist and playback singer, and Rajinikanth’s daughter Aisharway had announced in January 2022 that they were parting ways — a news which had come as a huge shock for their followers.
“18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting. Today we stand at a place where our paths separate. Aishwarya and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better,” Dhanush wrote in a post on social media on January 17, 2022.
Aishwarya shared a similar post on her social media page, with both requesting privacy.
Two years later, the duo has filed divorce petitions by mutual consent.
Despite living separately, Dhanush and Aishwarya, who are parents to two sons, were both seen at Yatra and Linga’s school functions recently.
Dhanush and Aishwarya got married in a grand wedding in 2004, when they were 21 and 23, respectively.
Dhanush, who acts mostly in Tamil films, has also starred in popular Hindi movies like ‘Raanjhanaa’ and ‘Atrangi Re’. He is currently busy with his second directorial work ‘Raayan’.
Aishwarya recently made her directorial comeback with ‘Lal Salaam’, which featured his ad Rajinikanth in a cameo.
