‘Dhoom’ & ‘Dhoom 2’ Director Sanjay Gadhvi Suffers Sudden Death; Bollywood Shocked

Mumbai: Director Sanjay Gadhvi, who helmed ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Dhoom 2’, died at his residence here on Sunday.

He was 57, and would have celebrated his birthday three days later. He is survived by wife Gina and two daughters.

According to his elder daughter Sanjina Gadhvi, Sanjay didn’t have any health issues.

“He passed away at 9.30 am this morning at his residence. We are not sure what it is, but it is most likely a heart attack. He wasn’t unwell, he was perfectly healthy,” his elder daughter Sanjina told PTI.

Of the seven Hindi movies he directed, ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Dhoom 2’ were the most popular.

‘Dhoom’, which released in 2004, starred Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, Uday Chopra, Esha Deol and Rimi Sen.

‘Dhoom 2’ came 2 years later with a bigger star cast — Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Bipasha Basu, Uday Chopra and Rimi Sen.

Junior Bachchan expressed shock ‘beyond belief’ in an Instagram post where he posted an image of Sadhvi and wrote about the story behind it.

“I took this photo of Sanjay whilst we were filming the climax of Dhoom 2 in South Africa. We made 2 films together — Dhoom and Dhoom 2. Sanju, when I spoke to you last week and we were reminiscing about our shoots and memories I would never have imagined even in my craziest dreams that I would have to write a post like this… I’m shocked beyond belief. You had faith in me, even when I didn’t. You gave me my first ever hit!!! I can never ever forget that or be able express what it meant to me. I will cherish your friendship always. Rest in peace my brother,” Abhishek wrote.
