Jajpur: A doctor and a pharmacist among three persons were killed in a road accident near Bandala under Badachana police station limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district late on Wednesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Paresh Kumar Mohapatra, a doctor of City Hospital in Cuttack, Rajendra Kumar Samant, a pharmacist and the owner of a Patholab in Nua Bazar area in Cuttack, and Debadutta Biswal, the driver. All of them are the residents of Mahanadi Vihar area in Cuttack city.
According to sources, Dr Mohapatra and Samal had gone to Bhogarai in Balasore district to attend a marriage function on Wednesday evening.
However, on their return, the driver lost control of the Hyundai Creta SUV which hit a stationary truck from behind near Bandala under Badachana police station limits on National Highway-60 in Jajpur district killing the three persons on the spot.
Following information, police rushed to spot and informed the family members of the deceased.
The incident took place at about 1.30 AM, police said.
Till reports last came in, the family members have arrived at Badachana Police Station.
Police said the bodies would be handed over to the family members after the post mortem at the government hospital at Badachana.
Meanwhile, police has detained the truck which had fled the area soon after the ill-fated car hit it from behind.
