Chennai: The draft roll, post the SIR exercise in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, were released on Friday.
Names of close to 1 crore voters – 97.28 to be precise — have been deleted from Tamil Nadu’s electoral roll over death, migration, duplication, and other factors.
In Gujarat, there have been 73.7 lakh deletions in the draft roll.
Interesting, the figures are higher than that in West Bengal, where the draft roll was released three days ago, leading to around 58 lakh revisions.
According to Tamil Nadu’s Chief Electoral Officer, 66.4 lakh people have been removed from the draft list because they have migrated to other states/UTs, 26.9 lakh have died, while 3.98 lakh voters were found to be enrolled at multiple places.
Enumeration forms were collected from 5.43 crore voters, which represents 84.81 per cent of total voters in Tamil Nadu.
“As on December 19, 2025, out of 6,41,14,587 electors, 5,43,76,755 electors have submitted their Enumeration Forms, reflecting overwhelming participation in the first phase of SIR,” the Chief Electoral Officer stated.
In Gujarat SIR, 73.7 lakh voters were left out of which 18.07 lakh were found dead, 51.86 lakh marked ‘shifted/absent’ and 3.81 lakh were found enrolled at multiple places.
The period for claims and objections for genuine voters to be added to the list is till January 18, 2026.
“Genuine electors can still be added back in electoral rolls during the Claims and Objection period from 19.12.2025 to 18.01.2026,” the chief electoral officers informed.
Of the 12 states and Union territories where SIR is being held, draft voters’ lists have been issued in 7 — West Bengal, Rajasthan, Goa, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
