Patna: According to the early trends, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is ahead in several seats in Bihar as the counting of votes for the state assembly elections commenced at 8am on Friday. Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) is emerging as single largest party as NDA looks at a comeback.

Trends at 10.45 am showed the NDA leading in 185 seats. The Mahagathbandhan was leading in 54. At 10.44 am, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also crossed the 50-mark and was leading in 76 seats. The Janata Dal (United) was leading in 78 seats around the same time. The majority mark in Bihar assembly is 122 seats.

During the early hours, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, who is the chief ministerial candidate of the Mahagathbandhan, was leading in Raghopur assembly.

Counting is being done for polls conducted for 243 assembly seats. The results will decide whether Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar – the state’s longest-serving chief minister – will secure a fifth consecutive term or not.

This time, Bihar has registered a historic voter turnout of 67.13% in the two-phase elections that was held on November 6 and 11.

Most exit polls have predicted a clean sweep for the NDA, of which the JD(U) is a part. Tejashwi Yadav has dismissed the predictions and claimed the Mahagathbandhan would form the government with a thumping majority.

Besides Tejashwi Yadav, prominent candidates of both alliances include Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD)’s Tej Pratap and Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar.
