Elderly Man Trampled To Death By Elephant In Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: An elderly farmer was trampled to death by a wild elephant at a village under Hindol forest range in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district early on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Mahuli Pradhan (74) of Karanda village under the jurisdiction of Rasol police station in the district.

According to reports, the incident took place when Pradhan had gone to his agricultural field on the outskirt of the village early in the morning. A herd of elephants had strayed into the village and one of the jumbos attacked the man, killing him on the spot.

On being informed, local police and forest department officials rushed to the village and launched a probe into the incident. The body was sent to a hospital for post-mortem.

Locals demanded adequate financial compensation for the kin of the deceased person.

They claimed that at least four people have been killed by wild elephants in the area in last three weeks.
