Eminent Odia Neurosurgeon Elected Member Of NAMS
Bhubaneswar: Renowned neuro-surgeon Prof Sureswar Mohanty has been elected as a Member of the Council of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India).
NAMS fosters and utilizes academic excellence as its resource to meet medical and social goals. Its council consists of 22 members and it functions as a nodal agency for Continuing Education for Medical and Allied Health Professionals and advises the Central government in matters of national health policy and planning.
Recipient of four national awards, Mohanty had done his M.Ch. at AIIMs, New Delhi after which he underwent advanced training at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London.
With more than 200 publications to his credit, Mohanty has served as Professor of Neurosurgery and Director of the Institute of Medical Sciences under Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi, for 33 years.
He is the recipient of national awards instituted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Medical Council of India (MCI), Neurological Society of India (NSI) and NAMS for his research work. He has worked in reputed institutions including the Institute of Neurosurgery, London, Burdenko Institute, Moscow and Cleveland Clinic, USA as a visiting professor.
Mohanty has also been conferred with the lifetime achievement award by the Uttar Pradesh government and the Uttarakhand Neuroscience Society.
He is presently the professor and head of the department of Neurosurgery at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital.
