Engineer Sit-Ups: Cops Likely To Take Action Against Odisha MLA

Balangir: Police are likely to take action against the Patnagarh MLA, Saroj Meher, for forcing the PWD Junior Engineer of Kantabanjhi, Jayakant Sabar, to do sit-ups in public.

According to reports, Balangir SP K Siva Subramani, who visited Patnagarh police station on Friday, met senior officials in this connection.

Notably, after the shocking incident that took place on June 6, district collector Arindam Dakua had told the media on June 9 briefing that the district administration has got a factual report from the Patnagarh sub-collector, who has confirmed the incident. He had also said that he would send the report to the state government.

Taking note of the widespread resentment among the tribal community against the local legislator, it is most likely that the action would be taken against him, sources said.

Sabar had complained that apart from being forced to do sit-ups, he was slapped in public by the executive engineer on the orders of the MLA.

The Balangir Zilla Adivasi Kalyan Sangh held a demonstration in Balangir town to condemn the incident, while the Balangir Diploma Engineers’ Association also protested against it and submitted a memorandum to the district collector.

The police have registered a case against the MLA.
