Ensure Law And Order Ahead of Hanuman Jayanti: Centre To States, UTs

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all states and union territories to ensure maintenance of law and order ahead of Hanuman Jayanti, which is observed on April 6.

Urging everyone to observe the occasion peacefully, the Centre advised states and UTs to monitor any factor that can disturb communal harmony in the society, PTI reported.

The Union Home ministry’s advisory comes after different parts of the country witnessed communal violence during Ram Navami celebrations last week.

“The state/UT governments are encouraged to ensure the maintenance of law and order, peaceful observance of the festival, and monitoring of any factors that could disturb communal harmony in society,” the Home Ministry said.

West Bengal’s Howrah was one of the places where violence erupted during Ram Navami. Vehicles were torched, shops ransacked with the ruling Trinamool Congress and principal opposition party BJP accusing each other of inciting riots.

Incidents of violence and riots were also reported from Bihar’s Sasaram and Bihar Sharif, Maharashtra’s Sambhajinagar in Aurangabad district and Gujarat’s Fatehpur in Vadodara district.
