‘Ex-Dhenkanal MLA Arrested From Spa, Released On Bail In Kolkata’

Dhenkanal: Contrary to the claims of former Dhenkanal MLA Nabin Nanda that he was pickpocketed in Kolkata on Saturday, a Kolkata-based web magazine “Patrika” has reported that he was arrested by police from a spa and later released on bail.

According to the report published in the news web magazine, the Kolkata police had arrested 18 persons, including nine women and two customers along with Nanda, during a raid on the spa near the Park Street on Saturday night. Police on Sunday produced Nanda in a local court, which granted him the bail.

Nanda’s counsel Ashwini Kumar also told the media that the court has granted bail to his client.

However, Nanda rubbished the charges of the police.

“I had gone out for shopping at around 7 PM on Saturday when a miscreant pickpocketed my mobile phone and wallet. As I chased him, he ran into the spa. After I went into the spa, police caught me on suspicion as a customer. But as I had no mobile phone, I could not contact with my family members,” he added.

Claiming that he had no intention of going to the spa, Nanda said he will take legal recourse against his arrest by the police.

Refuting the allegations against his father, Nanda’s son Sambit said his father failed to contact family members till Sunday after losing his mobile phone to the pickpockets.

He further said that his father is in Hotel Auris and will return back soon after settling the police case in Kolkata.

Notably, Nanda had gone to Kolkata on June 28 and was scheduled to return on Sunday. He was in touch with his family members till Friday. But the family members could not contact him on Saturday after his mobile phone was switched off.

As Nanda, who was scheduled to arrive in a flight in Bhubaneswar on Sunday morning, did not turn up, his son on Sunday had flown to Kolkata in the afternoon and lodged a complaint with the Shakespeare Sarani police station. However, after some hours, he traced his father.
