Ex-Odia Army Officer KP Dhalsamanta Passes Away

New Delhi: Retired Odia army officer Lt General KP Dhalsamanta passed away at a private hospital in New Delhi at 7.30 am on Monday. He was 70.

Family sources said that Dhalsamant had been undergoing treatment at the private hospital for about a month.

A veteran of the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Dhalsamanta was the former Director General of the Rashtriya Rifle and member of the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) at Kolkata.

A postgraduate in Defence Studies from Madras University, he was also in charge of Siachen, the strategic point bordering China and Pakistan. He had successfully led his troop during the Kargil war, Operation RAKSHAK in Punjab and Operation PARAKRAM in J& K.

Besides his war experience, his in-service assignments provided challenges and opportunities in the fields of human resources management, material, equipment and financial management.

He was awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) during his military service in recognition of his outstanding performance while he was Major General and Lieutenant General.
