Bhubaneswar: Odisha-born IPS officer and former Director-General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu Jalad Kumar Tripathy is tipped to be appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Odisha.
The name of the 1985-cadre IPS officer for the post was reportedly finalised at a virtual meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday, sources said.
A proposal to this effect has been sent to the Governor for approval after which a gazette notification will be issued.
The post of the CIC has fallen vacant with Sunil Mishra retiring on August 15 this year.
Tripathy, who retired as DGP on June 30, was also the Police Commissioner of Chennai.
Born at Bheda of Cuttack district, he served in some sensitive posts in TN like IGP, South Zone. He was posted with the Crime Branch CID and Economic Offences Wing and gained popularity for cracking the 2012 Chennai Bank Robberies.
The Odia officer is also the first cop to receive the ‘Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration’ in 2008.
