Chandigarh: A Singapore-based corporate leader visiting India for Diwali and a family wedding was allegedly shot dead by a neighbour in Faridabad after a parking-related clash escalated into violence. Police have arrested the accused, Monu Sharma alias Mohan, and registered a murder case.
Paramjeet Dhankhar, 42, had reached Faridabad only a day earlier from Singapore, where he worked as chief operating officer of FTP Software. He had previously headed Tech Mahindra’s Asia-Pacific business and had come home to celebrate Diwali and attend his nephew’s wedding.
Around 8 pm on Friday, Dhankhar returned from the gym and became involved in an argument with Sharma, who lived on the third floor of the same Sector 21C building. The confrontation reportedly began over a vehicle parked in Dhankhar’s allotted space, then turned physical before Sharma allegedly returned to the parking area armed with a pistol and opened fire.
Threat Before The Killing
Earlier that day, Dhankhar had approached the Ankhir police post to complain against Sharma after an exchange involving a damaged gate in their shared parking area. When officers called Sharma in, he allegedly warned Dhankhar in the presence of police personnel: “I will not leave you alive by tonight.”
Police sources said the threat was treated as a passing remark and that the parties were persuaded to reach a compromise; Sharma was neither detained nor was protective arrangement made for Dhankhar. Hours later, Sharma allegedly fired about 15 rounds, nine of which struck Dhankhar, killing him at the scene, as reported by The New Indian Express.
Neighbourhood Tensions
The dispute was not seen as an isolated incident. Residents told investigators that Sharma frequently created disturbances near house number 641, drove high-performance cars at speed through the sector, played loud music late at night, and occasionally fired shots into the air.
Dhankhar’s son, Shaurya, had earlier confronted Sharma over the broken gate and sought repairs. Sharma allegedly responded: “I don’t talk to pups; send your father.” Before firing, Sharma allegedly told Dhankhar: “Have you ever seen what a widow looks like? You have such great faith in God; let me send you straight to him.”
Arrest And Investigation
After the shooting, Sharma allegedly fled with family members but was later detained near DLF Chowk in Ballabgarh. Based on Shaurya’s complaint, police registered a case against Monu Sharma alias Mohan, along with his wife Divya, son Mayank, daughter Naina, and brother Hetram.
Investigators are also examining allegations that Sharma possessed more firearms than permitted and had previously faced a GST Department raid over suspected tax evasion. Dhankhar’s body was sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem examination, while police continue to investigate the sequence of events and the response to the earlier threat.
