Mumbai: An FIR has been filed against ‘Jaat’ actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, other cast members and makers of the film.
In the FIR, lodged with Jalandhar police, the complainant has claimed that a particular church scene in the film has hurt sentiments of the Christian community.
In that scene, antagonist Hooda is seen standing beneath a crucifix inside a church, while members of the congregation offer prayers.
The scene also shows hooliganism inside the church, which has outraged the Christian community, which is demanding that the film be banned.
“The director, writer and producer deliberately released this film during the holy month of Good Friday and Easter so that Christians get angry and riots break out in the entire country and unrest is spread,” the complainant said, as quoted by NDTV.
The FIR has been registered against Sunny, Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, director Gopichand Malineni and the film’s producers under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Earlier this week, representatives from the Christian community submitted a memo to the Joint Commissioner of Police demanding a ban on the screening of ‘Jaat 2’ in theatres.
Written and directed by Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, ‘Jaat 2’ was released in theatres on April 10.
