First E-Lok Adalat Held In HC, District Courts Of Odisha
Cuttack: The first ever e-Lok Adalat through video-conferencing was held in Orissa High Court and all the 30 district courts of the state on Saturday, keeping in view the safety of the litigants and with compliance of COVID-19 norms.
Total 2061 cases were disposed of in different courts, Rs. 47,57,85,595 awarded and total 171 pre-litigation cases disposed of and total amount of Rs. 1,40,01,639 settled on the day.
Considering the difficulties of the litigants for disposal of cases in COVID times, Odisha State Legal Services Authority conducted the first e-Lok Adalat in Odisha under the guidance of Chief Justice Mohammad Rafiq of the High Court.
Odisha is one of the few states in the country to have conducted e-Lok Adalat amid COVID 19 pandemic. Rajasthan, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, J&K are other state who have also done the same.
In the district courts all over the state which used a mix of different platforms, 665 Motor Accident Claims Tribunal cases were disposed of with Rs. 29,86,01,143 awarded to the litigants. Besides, 521 cases of financial institutions, 676 criminal compoundable cases and 236 family court matters were disposed of, according to a Odisha State Legal Services Authority release.
