The families approached the local police in Cuttack for immediate help. Cuttack police contacted their counterparts in Dhenkanal and a search operation was launched by the latter along with Forest officials.

The search team was trying to trace the boys, who are students, from their mobile phones. The missing boys had also sent their pictures from the spot to the police. The search operation was going on till night, but the team had not traced the boys.
