Bhubaneswar: Flood situation has improved substantially in South and North coastal districts of Odisha, which had received heavy rainfall under the influence of the severe cyclonic storm Titli.
In Ganjam district, floodwaters have receded in the most-affected areas of Aska and Purushottampur. Relief materials are being airdropped from two helicopters of the Indian Navy in these area, official sources said.
In Balasore district, Budhabalanga and Jalaka rivers are flowing under the danger mark. However, road communication between Basta and Baliapal remains disrupted with floodwaters of Jalaka river overflowing at a height of about three feet at Pejagala. The floodwaters have also entered Mathani, Sadanandpur, Chakurai and Sindurahata and Paipada villages.
The overflowing Kantiabera river has submerged hundreds of acres of paddy fields in Bahanaga block in Soro area in the district.
In Mayurbhanj district, the floodwaters of Budhabalanga and Gangahara rivers have inundated 14 villages of four panchayats in Badasahi block.
