Flood Situation In Mahanadi Likely To Improve In Next 72 Hours: SRC

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is hopeful that the flood situation in Mahanadi will improve in the next 72 hours.

Briefing the media, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena said that due to heavy and incessant rainfall in the upper catchment areas in Chhattisgarh, there is maximum inflow of floodwater to the Hirakud reservoir.

As per the latest update, the inflow of floodwater to the dam is 8,95,600 cusecs per second while the outflow through 46 gates is 7,62,195 cusecs per second.

Stating that the inflow of water at Mundali will be around 10.5 lakh by 5 am on Sunday, Jena said that floodwater, after peaking for six to nine hours, will enter the Mahanadi delta and tributaries of Kathjodi, Birupa, Devi, Daya, Bhargavi, Luna and Chitrotpala. This will trigger medium flood in Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Puri.
