New Delhi: Farmers suspended their march to Delhi after at least 17 of them were injured following police action at the Shambhu border between Haryana and Punjab on Saturday. According to reports, they would announce their next action after an internal meeting. They were marching towards the national capital with a slew of demands amid the ongoing winter session of the Parliament.

The farmers alleged that Haryana Police used tear gas to dispel them.
“We have called off today’s protest march as around 17 farmers were injured. Haryana Police used heavy tear gas. We will announce the next programme after an internal meeting,” Farmer leader Tejvir Singh told India Today TV.
Police claimed that the farmers didn’t have the necessary permission to conduct the march.

The protesting farmers had been pressing the government for various demands. They have been demanding a legal guarantee for a minimum support price (MSP). This was their third attempt to enter the capital.
