Forest Officer In Odisha’s Puri Arrested In Disproportionate Assets Case

Puri: The Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF), whose houses and office were raided by Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday, was arrested in disproportionate assets case on Thursday.

The Vigilance officials carried out raids on properties of ACF, Wildlife Division, Puri at five places. Those are a triple-storey building in Bhubaneswar, rented house in Puri, the house in native village Sisilo in Khurda district, the house of a relative in Dhenkanal and office room in Puri, according to a release of the office of Director, Vigilance, Odisha, Cuttack.

The raids revealed that Swain was in possession of assets worth Rs 1.16 crore. Besides the buildings, he has five plots of land, two two-wheelers, deposits in different banks, investment in insurance policies, gold and silver ornaments, cash and household articles.

As the Forest officer was found in possession of huge disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily, a case was registered against him and his spouse the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Swain was arrested and produced before the court of special judge, vigilance, Bhubaneswar. The court remanded him to judicial custody till August 19.
