Former Odisha Minister Nabin Chandra Narayan Das Quits Congress

Dhenkanal: In another jolt to Odisha Congress ahead of the 2024 election, former minister Nabin Chandra Narayan Das announced this resignation from party during a press meet here on Monday.

“I resigned over leadership issue in the state unit of the party. The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president only thinks about himself, not the party. We were not consulted regarding improvement of the party,” said Das.

He, however, declined to comment on his next move.

Das had served as a minister and assigned Panchayati Raj, Education and Commerce portfolios. He was also the chairman of Dhenkanal Municipality.

This comes five days after former Rajnagar MLA Anshuman Mohanty resigned from primary membership of Congress. However, the reason as to why this strong youth leader of Kendrapada district decided to quit the party is yet to be ascertained.

On Sunday, senior leader from Angul district Biplab Jena, who had resigned from the post of Angul district Congress president and primary membership of the grand old party on February 13, joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) along with his supporters.

With the 2024 general elections approaching, the departure of many leaders from Congress has become a huge concern for the party in the state amid attempts to bring back those who had either defected or were suspended earlier.
