Digha/Bhubaneswar: The Jagannath Temple at Digha in West Bengal appeared to be at the centre a fresh controversy after a video showing certain happenings inside the shrine went viral on social media.
According to information, the controversy has erupted over the alleged use of footwear inside the kitchen of the Digha Jagannath Temple.
Visuals showing people wearing shoes and slippers while cooking and carrying out cleaning work inside the temple kitchen have gone viral on social media.
The incident came to light after a devotee reportedly recorded the visuals on a mobile phone, which were later widely shared online.
The visuals have raised questions among devotees, particularly because footwear is generally prohibited for visitors inside temple premises. The viral video has also led to questions about the food being prepared in the kitchen and whether it is used as prasad or bhog.
While no response about the viral video has so far been received from the temple authorities, the kitchen in Digha shrine is reportedly managed by ISKCON.
The incident has triggered strong reactions among devotees of Lord Jagannath who want to know the circumstances in which the cooks were allowed to wear shoes inside the shrine kitchen.
It may be noted that the Digha temple was earlier embroiled in a controversy for using the term Jagannath Dham.
