Panaji: Two persons from the Gajapati district in Odisha have been arrested in Goa on charges of murder after violence at a poultry farm at Zambol, Cortalim in the Verna police station area. One person – a worker of the poultry farm – was killed and another injured in the violence that took place on Thursday. While the dead man was a resident of the Kandhamal district of Odisha, the injured hails from Gajapati.
Around 12.30 pm on Thursday, Kuni Majhi, wife of Anil Muthamajhi, lodged a complaint at the Verna police station against two unknown persons. The two, dressed in red and yellow t-shirts, had allegedly entered the St Anthony’s Poultry Farm and demanded chicken for free. An altercation ensued between the two and the complainant’s husband Anil Muthamajhi. Jihusaya Mandal, another worker of the farm, also rushed to the spot.
“It was alleged that the two men attacked Muthamajhi and Mandal with knives before fleeing. While Muthamajhi was killed, Mandal was hospitalised with stab injuries. We carried out an investigation and arrested Santosh Mallick (32) and Pradhan Mandal (35). Both of them are from the Gajapati district of Odisha,” a senior police officer said.
The two had rented a room in Davorlim, Margao, in South Goa. During interrogation, the two broke down and confessed that they had committed the crime. They claimed that an old enmity with Jihusaya Mandal led to the violence.
