Bhubaneswar: Following a sudden spike in corona positive cases with it spreading to two more districts in the last couple of days, the Odisha government on Thursday issued a notification declaring Ganjam as a Red Zone.
“Ganjam district is now in red zone due to very high doubling rate,” the notification issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department said.
Ganjam district has reported 21 corona positive cases since May 2. All of them are Surat returnees. With 21 active cases, the district now comes under Red Zone as per the Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines.

COVID-19 hotspots Jajpur (55), Bhadrak (21), Balasore (25), and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation area (47) in Khurda district were earlier classified as Red Zone.
Besides, Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj are now in Orange Zone with four and three positive cases being detected in these two districts respectively on Wednesday. Earlier, 11 districts were classified as Orange Zone.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) PK Mohapatra has asked all Collectors and Municipal Commissioners to ensure that the activities permitted as per classification of zones are followed strictly.
