Bhubaneswar: In a quick official action on alleged suicide of the prime accused in Mamita Meher murder case, Gobinda Sahu on Tuesday, the jail warder has been suspended.
According to official sources, DIG of Prisons, Sambalpur range has suspended warder of Kantabanji jail in Balangir district Akshay Kumar Mohanty on charges of dereliction of duty. Gobinda was found hanging inside the jail premises before his production in a local court in the morning. Jail authorities rushed him to Kantabanji sub-divisional hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, a team of CID-CB led by DSP Bijay Mallick and three other officers has left for Kantbanji for taking over the investigation into the death of Gobinda on the orders of Director General of Police.
Other than the officers of CID-CB, the 10-member team has forensic and cyber experts and officers of photo bureau of State Police to assist in the investigation.
Earlier in the day, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) took suo motu cognizance of the case and sought a detailed report from the Special Director General of Prisons & DCS and Balangir SP. They have been told to submit their reports within 15 days.
