Gold Bars, Rings Worth Rs 12 Lakh Seized At Bhubaneswar Airport, Two Detained
Bhubaneswar: The officials of the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs seized gold bars and rings worth over Rs 12 lakh from two persons at Biju Patnaik International Airport here on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Customs officials intercepted two passengers of Indian origin hailing from Thane district of Maharashtra, who arrived from Bangkok by Air Asia Flight No FD-315 via Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia Flight No AK-31 in the intervening night of March 27 and 28.
During search of their body and personal baggage, the officials found three gold bars which were concealed in their rectum and 143 gold rings which were concealed inside the buttons of jeans shirt and jeans pant. During examination, the seized ornaments were found to be of foreign origin which were attempted to be smuggled into India.
The seizure of gold bars and rings, collectively weighing 378.370 grams are valued at Rs 12,01,323.
