GOLD Trailer: The Journey Of India’s Struggle To Win Gold In Hockey

Mumbai/Bhubaneswar: Bollywood is coming up with another movie based on hockey ‘GOLD’, which depicts the journey of the sport in India, starring Akshay Kumar.

After many posters, the trailer of the film was released on Monday.

It opens in the pre-independence era and shows the struggle the team went through for winning a gold medal for the country. This is a journey of Tapan Das, played by Akshay Kumar, a young assistant managers in 1936 who dreams of playing for an independent nation.

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani said it is not a biopic. “It is a completely fictional story set against a real backdrop between 1933 and 48 India. It is about what the country was, the sports.. about hockey. It is not based on any character,” Sidhwani added.

The movie also stars Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Singh, Sunny Kaushal and Nikita Dutta. The film will hit the theatres on August 15, Independence Day.

This year, Hockey World Cup will be held in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar. The movie is being released around a time when the nation is already talking about hockey as India’s official national sport and this, along with Diljit Dosanjh’s Soorma, will give a push to this plead.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had tweeted an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a few days ago, urging him to declare Hockey as the national sport. Since then, #HockeyForNationalGame is trending as a hashtag on Twitter.
