Bhubaneswar: In a first in Odisha, a COVID-19 patient treated with convalescent plasma therapy has recovered from the disease.
Health and Family Welfare Department on Friday identified the patient as a 48-year-old woman of Cuttack. She underwent plasma therapy at Ashwini COVID Hospital.
According to official sources, 13 patients in Odisha have received plasma therapy and most of them are responding well to the treatment.

Convalescent plasma therapy began in three hospitals – SUM Hospital and KIIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar and Ashwini Hospital in Cuttack – on July 15 and July 16.

On July 15, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated a plasma bank at SCB Medical College and Hospital, which acts as the nodal agency. He also appealed to eligible COVID-19 survivors to donate their plasma.

Plasma therapy was started at Tata COVID Hospital at Sitalapalli in Ganjam district on July 22. Later, the government announced to start plasma bank at IGH-Rourkela, MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Notably, Odisha is the third state after Delhi and Maharashtra to introduce plasma therapy for the treatment of critical COVID-19 patients.
