Bhubaneswar: At least 25 wagons of a goods train loaded with iron ore derailed near Chimidipalli railway station in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Araku–Kottavalasa section under Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) in the afternoon when the goods train was on its way to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh from Kirandul in Chhattisgarh.
The derailment has led to disruption in the train services on Visakhapatnam-Kirandul route. This is predominantly a freight line.
Senior railway officials immediately rushed to the site to assess the situation for expediting the restoration work. A relief train was promptly dispatched to undertake restoration operations, ECoR said in a statement.
Some passenger trains between Visakhapatnam and Kirandul have been diverted via Vizianagaram in Andhra and Rayagada in Odisha, said the ECoR.
