Berhampur: The Crime Branch (CB), which took six adult accused in the Gopalpur gang-rape case on remand for further interrogation, is likely to recreate the crime scene on Wednesday.
The court on Monday had granted the CB 2-day remand of the accused – Kunal Pradhan of Patpur village, Baburam Dalai and Lakshman Pradhan of Barupada, Om Pradhan of Sikiri, and Deepak Tarai and Pramod Nayak of Purushottampur.
According to sources, the first day’s questioning under the supervision of Crime Branch IG S Saini lasted nearly three hours. The grilling of the six accused continued on the second day and investigators may conduct a crime scene recreation to reconstruct the incident’s timeline, the sources added.
A total of 10 persons, including four minors, have been apprehended in connection with the gang-rape incident which took place on June 15 at the Gopalpur sea beach. The adult suspects were sent to Circle Jail, while the minors were placed in a correctional and observation home. The survivor had earlier identified the six adult suspects during a jail-based TI parade.
Initial investigations indicate that three of them allegedly committed the rape, while others held the male friend of the 20-year-old woman captive. Digital evidence like CCTV footage and mobile communication have also been seized and sent to the state forensic laboratory.
