Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for three districts of Odisha, including Cuttack city, till 6.30 pm on Wednesday.
Moderate thunderstorm/lightning accompanied by squall wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and
moderate to intense spell of rain may affect some parts of districts of Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Dhenkanal, and Jagatsinghpur in 2-3 hours.
The weather agency has warned of minor damage to thatched huts, power and communication lines, standing crops, banana and papaya trees and waterlogging in low-lying areas. People have been advised to avoid trees and instead take shelter in concrete structures.
Orange warning of moderate to heavy rain or thundershower along with lightning has also been issued for some parts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, Puri, Balasore, Kendrapada, Deogarh, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Raygada, Jajpur, Gajpati, Bhadrak, Sundargarh and Khurda (Including Bhubaneswar city) during this period.
People in these districts have advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
