Greater Noida: Police are investigating the deaths of five members of a family in Greater Noida as a suspected case of suicide, possibly linked to a long-running dispute over property. The bodies were found at their home on Saturday, a day after the family had consumed tea and noodles, initially raising fears of food poisoning.
Mahesh, his wife Lalita and their three children were discovered dead inside their residence in Nagla Shri Padam village, under the jurisdiction of Rabupura police station in Greater Noida.
While post-mortem examinations have indicated signs of poisoning, the exact cause of death will be established only after laboratory tests on the preserved viscera samples.
Voice Note Triggers Action
The investigation took a decisive turn on Sunday after police recovered a voice note from Mahesh’s mobile phone, reportedly recorded before his death. In the audio, Mahesh is said to have held his two sisters and a brother-in-law responsible for the hardships faced by his family, as reported by India Today.
Following the voice note and a complaint filed by Mahesh’s brother-in-law alleging harassment, police arrested the three relatives and registered a case against them. Investigators said the allegations are being verified, and their role in the events leading to the deaths has not yet been established.
Property Dispute Under Scanner
Police said the family had been embroiled in a prolonged dispute over property, which is now a central line of inquiry. The voice note has emerged as a key piece of evidence, and investigators are examining it alongside the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The complaint filed by Mahesh’s brother-in-law accuses the two sisters and their brother-in-law of harassing Mahesh and his family. Police said further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation and the forensic findings.
Forensic Report Awaited
Although the family had eaten noodles and tea the previous night, police have ruled out food poisoning as the immediate cause of death based on the post-mortem findings. Doctors preserved the viscera of all five deceased and sent the samples for laboratory analysis.
Officials said both the suspected suicide angle and the possibility of poisoning are being examined. The final cause of death will be known only after the viscera reports are received.
