Guard Of Honour Given As Odia Jawan’s Body Reaches Bhubaneswar, Taken To Birthplace In Puri

Bhubaneswar: The mortal remains of martyred Army jawan Debashish Biswal of Odisha arrived at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

As a guard of honour was given soon after the mortal remains reached the airport, Governor Ganeshi Lal, a host of dignitaries and senior Army officials paid tributes to the jawan, who was martyred in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

The martyr’s wife also paid tributes to the mortal remains at the airport and accompanied the body as it was taken to his native village in Sakhigopal area of Puri district. The body was taken in a procession and last rites will be performed at his village Khandayat Sahi.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh for the family members of Biswal, who was among the five army personnel who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir.

Twin City Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi, who was present at the airport, said the body was received with full state honour. A number of leaders including Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal also paid their last respect to the slain soldier at the airport.

said, “The Country will remember the supreme sacrifice Biswal has given. He is the pride of Odisha. I pray Lord Jagannath to give the bereaved family much needed strength at this hour of grief.”

Biswal received martyrdom on Thursday. He was among the five army personnel who lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir.

Lance Naik Debashish Biswal, who hailed from Alagum Khandayat Sahi near Sakhigopal, is survived by wife and a 7-month-old baby.
