Gurugram: Police said on Sunday that a 25-year-old AI engineer allegedly fatally stabbed his girlfriend inside his paying-guest accommodation in Gurugram, and was later found dead after being struck by a train.

Authorities are probing the pair’s relationship, their digital exchanges and forensic clues to piece together what transpired.

The victims have been named as Shreshth Malik, from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, and Ishara Ayubi of Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh.

Officials said both were employees of the same private company in Gurugram.

Malik had been residing at a PG in Sector 55, which is where police say the killing occurred.

The matter came to light after Ayubi’s relatives approached the Sector-56 police station on Saturday, reporting that repeated attempts to contact her had failed.

Police tracked her mobile phone; its last ping led them to Malik’s PG in Sector 55.

Officers went to the building and spoke to neighbours, who said they had not observed anything unusual. The room was then opened in the presence of the police.

Inside, officers found Ayubi lying amid a large pool of blood, with blood spatter across the room consistent with a violent attack. Preliminary findings indicated she had died from stab wounds.

A forensic team later examined the scene and collected evidence as investigators began reconstructing the timeline.

Earlier, the Government Railway Police had recovered a man’s body from the tracks near Garhi railway station.

Investigators said the man had been hit by a train and his body was severed into two parts.

Police identified the body as Malik after a mobile phone recovered at the railway site was traced to him, linking the two incidents.

Officials suspect Malik killed Ayubi and later died by suicide, though they said the precise order of events is still being verified.

Couple Moved In Together Days Earlier

Early inquiries showed Ayubi had moved into Malik’s PG only three days before the incident.

Authorities are examining the nature of their relationship, any events immediately before the alleged killing and whether prior disputes may have contributed.

Phones & Forensics Under Probe

“We are investigating every aspect of the case. The nature of the relationship between the two individuals and the reasons behind the incident would only be revealed once the investigation is complete.”

“The police are also examining their mobile phones, call details, chats and other technical evidence. An FIR of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway,” Sector-56 SHO Inspector Manoj Kumar told news agency PTI.

Police said they are analysing digital evidence, including mobile phones, call records and chat history, alongside forensic findings, to reconstruct events leading to the deaths.

The investigation is continuing.
