Gurugram: At least four prominent Gurugram-based schools received chilling bomb threat emails Wednesday morning, forcing immediate suspension of classes and large-scale evacuation drills.
According to reports, the threats — received around 8 AM — targeted institutions including DPS Sector 45, The Shri Ram School in Aravalli, Ryan International School in Sector 49, and Heritage Xperiential Learning School, prompting authorities to declare a full-day holiday amid heightened security.
Police along with bomb disposal squads swiftly responded, conducting thorough searches across the school premises. No explosives were found till the timing of filing the report. “We are treating this with utmost seriousness. All sites are being scanned, and cyber teams are tracing the email origins,” said a senior Gurugram Police official.
Students and staff were safely evacuated, with parents rushing to pick up children from assembly points.
The e-mails, sent from anonymous accounts, followed a similar pattern to recent hoax threats across India, demanding ransom in cryptocurrency or containing vague threats of planted bombs. The incident follows a wave of such emails hitting schools in Delhi-NCR last month, linked to international cyber pranksters or terror groups testing response systems.
Education authorities urged calm while bolstering cybersecurity protocols. Haryana’s education minister announced an inquiry into school email vulnerabilities and directed all institutions to verify communications via official channels.
Meanwhile, Gurugram Police have ramped up patrols around other schools. The National Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (N3C) is assisting in decoding the threats’ IP trails, potentially pointing to overseas servers.
