Hathras Case: Woman Was Not Raped, Says Senior UP Cop Citing Forensic Report

Lucknow: At a time when the entire country is still aghast at the brutal gang rape case in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said on Thursday that the 19-year-old Dalit woman — who succumbed to injuries at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital — was not raped.

The senior police officer stated the cause of death of the woman, who was assaulted by four upper-caste men in Hathras district on September 14, was a neck injury and trauma, as per a post-mortem report of Safdarjung Hospital, the Indian Express reported.

“The report of the forensic science laboratory (FSL) report has also come. It says clearly that samples did not have sperm. It makes clear that there was no rape or gang rape,” Kumar said. “Even the woman did not mention rape but talked about ‘marpeet’ (beating) only in her statement to police,” he said.

“For disturbing social harmony and create caste violence, some persons wrongly presented facts. Police took immediate action in the case and now we will identify those who tried to disturb social harmony and create caste violence,” the ADG said.
